In case you missed it, I have embarked on a 365-day picture challenge of pictures that inspire me or help me see moving forward is taking place. Here’s the picture for Day #2:
A lot of my job is interpreting and analyzing data, and I realized that my self-taught stats has a lot of gaps in it. So I cruised on over to Udemy and found what looks like a pretty good stats class to help me dump some knowledge in those gaps and make some connections that I may not be making on my own. My plan is to help myself move forward by developing more confidence in my stats skills; right now I keep second-guessing myself and, frankly, it’s getting kind of annoying.
What’s not annoying is the fact that I could easily sign up for a self-paced statistics class in this day and age of on-demand learning. I can’t help but reflect on the fact that this opportunity to move myself forward is also evidence of a culture that has moved forward significantly since I started teaching almost 20 years ago, where I would have had to sign up and pay for a traditional college class to learn the same information.
By the way, the cost of my Udemy class was $10. I haven’t looked it up, but I’m pretty sure that the cost of a traditional class is a tad bit more than that.
I’ll let everyone know how this class goes as I move through it–expect more pictures of this (especially ones of me frustrated at trying to learn stats) in the future.
